Overview of Automatic and Easier Methods of Electrical Isolation for Recreational vessels.
For vessels where changing engine parts for 2 wire isolated marine is not practical and engine ON hours are less than 200 per year.
Automatic Method (click here): uses electrically operated switches to isolate the engine when it is OFF.
Easier Method: uses manual switches to isolate the engine when OFF.
IMPORTANT: The SeaBis System MUST be used to remove ALL non engine stray current throughout the vessel.
Protection is here...
If your engine ON hours are less than 200 per year and you prefer to minimize engine changes then this method is for you. The SeaBis (DIY) Recreational Kit, in manual or automatic, with kits to suit your vessel, is available here:
The advantages are:
1. This is the easiest method of electrical isolation possible.
2. Cost is much less than one repair.
3. No hull penetration is ever required with the SeaBis System.
4. Stray current is very nearly eliminated. The Full Isolation Method totally eliminates stray current.
When the SeaBis System clears the remainder of the vessel of stray current and engine ON hours are less than 200 per year then electrolysis damage will be barely visible in that year.
How We Do It:
5. Hard wire the SeaBis unit. One SeaBis System per battery bank or group of batteries - if that group are all selected at least once per week.
6. Follow the Process of Elimination Instructions supplied with every SeaBis System.
7. The remainder of the vessel is cleared of stray current with all equipment in full use.. This is absolutely imperative.
The Result:
8. With all except the engine cleared of stray current, only the engine On hours causes stray current. As the engine On hours are less than 200 per year, the resulting stray current electrolysis will be barely visible in one year.
